Rifftrax Live - Samurai Cop

Let me show you my love!!

Presentation

We see Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett on their normal stage in Nashville, TN with a bloody body on a stretcher. This episode is comprised of a short before the feature movie, and the short is called "Manners in School."

Manners in School

This short features an insipid child who can't seem to get the whole "behavior" thing down. This is a pretty good short all around in ways of riffing. It's entertaining for sure and the whole premise of a chalk-drawn stick figure coming to life to teach a kid how not to act like a jack ass is pretty straight forward in how ridiculous it is. The ending where the chalk child tells the kid to erase him has to be the highlight (despite the technical difficulties the rifftrax guys have on stage).

Samurai Cop

A gang has begun a war between other gangs in Las Angeles. A cop on loan from San Diego has come to put a stop to it.

What makes this movie bad?

A movie without sense and without quality. Everything is wrong with this movie. The acting is legendary in how terrible it is. The movie is quotable on so many levels and the overall cheesiness is absolutely perfect when it comes to "so bad it's good" territory. The presentation is ugly, the action is laughably awkward, and if this is how any police men actually works, his time on the force would be especially limited.

With how hideous the whole movie looks, the worst part about this movie is the line reading. Every line that is spoken sounds like it came from a second grade play. However, this just adds to its anti-charm and makes it wildly entertaining and hilarious. The Rifftrax guys just add to the joy.

The Riffs

Perhaps the greatest riffs they've done for a long time. Rifftrax has always been notorious for their A-class riffs compared to their days in Mystery Science Theater 3000. This would be great material even by those standards. They are almost identical to the riffs they had in the normal Samurai Cop version, but that doesn't matter. It's different enough to be its own entity, and it's familiar enough to be nostalgic. They still say what needs to be said when it needs to be said. However, what makes this Rifftrax Live truly legendary happens at the end.

The Episode

Samurai Cop has always been one of their most famous movies they've done. That would probably be why they went the extra mile on it and created a Samurai Cop Rocking Theme Song! It is by far one of my favorite songs of the comedy variety. It is a perfect way to end the Live Showing. This is, far and away, one of the highest quality Live shows they have ever done. If you need to start somewhere on the Rifftrax's vast library of riffs, start here and work your way around. You could consider this Platinum material.
